Suggestions / Identify the adverts
« on: February 21, 2026, 11:27:11 am »
I see an increasing number of ads which could easily be mistaken as part of the message board.
Now, proper google ads have a button on them where you can complain to google that the ad looks like proper content.
These rogue ones don't.
Is it possible to just write the word "Advert" next to the adverts (there'll be space because you'll shrink all three adverts on the page, won't you?

Looks good! Many thanks. I know it's not a big part of the board, but someone (not me) was complaining.

It looks good, that's precisely what I wanted. As I say I'm not opposed to the idea of ads, it's just keeping them proportionate. So, if you could just deal with the other two (that come when your looking at the posts within a thread) that would be magnifico!

One observation now I had time to play with it, is it's not reactive as the width gets smaller. This is more obvious on a mobile phone where the ads appear choppped, but maybe google likes them that way.

General Support / The "View ratings" popup.

On the CAF1.0 stylesheet, the popup was a nice shade of blue with a round font.
This was because it used https://cdn.smfboards.com/caf/css/index.css

The new popup in CAF2.0 uses  https://cdn.smfboards.com/caf2/css/index.css
This results in a boring white background and a Times Roman type font.

Can we either go back to the old one or have the new one work like the old one?

It's not the width that needs tweaking so much as the height.
If it was half the height it would be fine.

Many thanks! My mate co-pilot said
If the admin is using “responsive ads”
Google will choose the size based on the container width.
If the container is too wide, Google will serve a large ad.
If the container is narrower, Google will serve a smaller one.
In that case, the admin can make the container narrower with CSS, and Google will adapt.

but of course it could be (frequently is) lying!

And this is a screenshot of my PC screen when we have adverts top and bottom. The adverts totally overwhelm the actual post there. As I say, I don't object to the idea of ads, but do they have to be so large?

This is what it looks like on my PC before the ads arrive.
You can see I'm losing more than a third of my screen.
I just think this is too big, too intrusive.

Well, they are on the mobile but they're also on the PC version. That's where I see them top, after the first post in a thread and at the bottom.

In my first post, the attached image shows what it looks like on my PC.

Hi, sorry I tried to do this last night but just couldn't login with all that cloudflare stuff.

My site is comeallwithin.createaforum.com.
I'm mainly viewing on a windows 11 PC with the screen size 1920 * 1080
Otherwise it's a Samsung Galaxy 52A, ANdroid 14

Thanks.

And now I see you can have a huge advert top of the board, another one after the first post in the message and a third at the bottom.
Do you work for ITV by any chance?  :D

And it is even worse on a mobile phone. The phone advert takes up 40%+ of the page. It prevents the user knowing whether there's content further down or to the right.

I have no problem with having adverts.
I don't run an ad blocker on this site.
I accept it's the price for a free messageboard.

But since I moved to CAF2.0 and started getting an advert in the header, the first line of a message and another ad, it's starting to look really naff.
If the message has a single line of text it is totally overshadowed by the adverts, see attached.

Thanks. I'm not anticipating problems but it's good to know there's a way back if necessary.

Style Support / Can I revert from CAF2.0 to Old Style

Am finally going to install CAF2.0.
(The wizards are great by the way).
But if it causes problems, can I revert to the old style or is this a leap of faith move?
