Guides and Tutorials / Re: How to Add Quick Reply

It would be better to do the admin one.

Its totally personal preference and opinion as to which way to do it.
I prefer not to make my members decisions for them when it comes to options via their Profiles.    I posted both ways to give people either option.

There isnt a way to center a banner posted in the Logo Image URL area.
The reason is you can not use html there - you can put only the direct link to the image.

Guides and Tutorials / How to Put a Shoutbox on your Forum
« on: January 08, 2010, 02:05:36 am »
You will need to sign up for a shoutbox/chatbox someplace and get the code.

Here is a list of chat/shout boxes:

www.cbox.ws
www.yellbox.com
www.myshoutbox.com
www.shoutmix.com
www.shoutbox.us
www.tag-board.com
www.tagboards.tk
www.tagboardsite.com/
www.xat.com/
http://chatango.com/

Decide where you want the Shoutbox to be on your forum.

In your Header or Footer:
Admin > Style Manager > Edit Header/Footer

In a board description:
Create a board for the shoutbox, paste the shoutbox code in the boards description area. Its nice to do it this way as you can limit who can see it by the boards permissions.

In a Portal block:
Make an html block and put the code in there.

To set a Member as a BOARD Moderator

Admin > Boards

Go to the Board you want them to modify

Click the Modify link

Scroll down, Look for Moderators

Type the name of the member whom you want to Moderate that board, or click the exclamation mark there and you can search for their name.

To set a Member as Administrator or Global Moderator

Go to the Members Profile > Account Settings
Change their "Primary Membergroup" to the appropriate membergroup.

If you want to Promote them to Administrator or Global Moderator privately (so it does not show that they are in their Profile or posts)  click the Show Additional Groups link and choose the group there instead.

Guides and Tutorials / How to Add Quick Reply
« on: January 08, 2010, 01:58:22 am »
Quick reply can be enabled in your Profile
It is a member selectable option that is usually left to member preference.

Profile > Look and Layout Preferences > Use quick reply on topic display

If it is your preference to set all Members options for Quick Reply for them:

Admin > Layout Settings > Member Options

Click: Configure guest and new user options for this theme
Look For: "Use quick reply on topic display"
Choose one of the following:

Show on by default: Quick Reply is always open
Show off by default: Quick Reply is always closed
- Click the expand button to open it.

Click: Save
Click: Remove all members options and use the defaults
Click: Ok

Guides and Tutorials / How to Create Child Boards

HOW TO CREATE CHILD BOARDS

First let's make the child board totals count on the main board.

Go to: Admin > Boards > Settings
Check: Count child's posts in parent's totals

Checking this option means the posts and topics in a board's child board will count toward it's totals on the index page.

To setup the child boards:

Click the "Modify Boards" tab
Click: "Add Board"
Choose the "Category" you want the board in
Across from "Order" use the dropdown box and set it to "Child of"
Use the drop down box to the right of that one to choose the board you want it in.

That's it! You are done!

Create A Forum Discussion / Re: Very interesting...

Well hi, im Andrew, from SMF Support, I just noticed something.
Well im going through the admin control panel now, and I went to forum maintenance, and when I look under Check all files against current versions and click the button, it says this:
What are you doing? Dave this is not right...
LOL, what is this?

Just as it is with the other smf for free forums there are options that are disabled in the software for hosted forums.  More then likely that option has been disabled and he replaced the output with that notice  ;)
