General Support / URL differences in forum
« on: December 23, 2015, 09:06:25 pm »
Somethings changed on the forum.  Not sure if there was an update to the forum software, but there's clearly something happening.

Using both Chrome and Firefox, I experience the same issue.  I've not had any problems, nor have I made any changes to the forum layout/css in quite some time.

If I go to http://tanktalk.createaforum.com/index.php
The boards are squished together.

Yet, when I visit http://tanktalk.createaforum.com/index.php?action=forum
The forum boards are displayed as they normally are.  As they were once displayed on the index.php page.

Any ideas why this has recently happened?

Thanks

Your confusion is not knowing the 'real' difference between a forum and a social media environment.
They are clearly and well defined two different things.

We are living in an 'instant gratification' world.  No longer do people have patience to wait for or read thru multiple articles of information to find an answer.

Sponsor a giveaway via a forum, and watch your numbers climb in 'give me something for nothing' entries.  With any luck, you'll get 1% of those entries to return as regulars to your forum.

Forums are clearly a left over of the old BBS days.

Admin>Layout Settings>Theme Settings>Logo image url

Enter url to your image.  Image replaces the name of your forums above "hello username"

Put it in your header.
This way you'll have the image at the top, and your forum name will still be visible.  Otherwise your forum name will be replaced by the logo image.

It will take the place of the video on my site: http://tropicalwannabe.createaforum.com/index.php

Admin>Style Manager>Modify Style>Headers and Footers
In the Header box, type: <center><img src="http://location of your image.jpg"></center>
Of course change the text in green to your actual image location.

Good luck!

Increase actual size of your banner, or constrict the size of your forum width.  Layout Settings>Theme Settings>Forum Width - enter value in box.

These would be the first things I'd try.

Good luck!

Confirm you have enabled EZBlock.

Admin > ezblock manager

Decide where you want your shoutbox to be located.

For my example, I'm going to show you how to make it appear at the top of your forums.

Scroll down to "TOP" - click Edit Column.  On this page, simply verify that 'enabled' is set to YES.  Click Edit Column to return.

Scroll down to "TOP" again, and it should show 'Enabled' in green.
Now click 'Add ezblock'

The default is an html block, so simply click 'Add ezblock'

At the top of this new screen, change the text in this box to reflect what you want the title of this block to be. (OR, at the bottom of the page click the box that say's 'hide titlebar')

On the left side of the editor, click the words "Hide TinyMCE Editor"

Now, in the block data box, copy your shoutbox contents here.

Click 'Add ezblock'

Your next decision is Visibility.  Where someone has to be in your forums to see the shoutbox.

When done, select 'Save Visible Settings'

Your all set, click the Home button to reload you forums and your box should be working.

Good luck!

The only way to put html code is via the ezportal box.

You'll have to enable ezportal on your site, and decide which 'box' (location) you wish your chat box to be on.

This is your ONLY option!

Guides and Tutorials / Re: Help please re forum private but 'Guests' online
« on: November 20, 2014, 01:04:22 am »

Kona, if you followed my suggestions in this thread: http://support.createaforum.com/8/help-please-re-making-my-forum-private-(members-only)/msg14619/#msg14619

Your board is private.  A user would have to log into your board to see any posted items, unless you've kept one Category visible.

Down in the 'stats' box, the "User's Online" will always show a value.  Search bots, members of your forum that have logged out but are still on the page will register a hit on the 'guests online' value.

Thanks for verifying AntacidObject66,

Would be nice if an admin could repair/replace that style so we can modify it.

Let's say you have a Category called "Start Here"
And under that Category, you have a 'board' called "Welcome"

To set the board "Welcome" so visitor's can read/see anything...

Admin>Boards>Select 'modify' for the 'Welcome board'
Leave 'Permissions' alone.. instead, just below that is a series of check boxes.
Simply check and un-check who can see this board.

If you only want registered people to see a board, simply un-check 'Guest'
A 'Regular' member is one that has registered, all other member types are based on the number of posts.

You'll have to do that for every board you wish to hide/make private.

I'd suggest you keep at least one board visible, with a post about your content so people that come by have an idea what your doing.

Good luck!

Admin>Style Manager>Select "modify style" next to the style your using.

Press F3 on your keyboard, in the search box type 'background'

Your looking for this:
Code: [Select]
/* Set a fontsize that will look the same in all browsers. */
body
{
   background: url(http://images.smfboards.com/caf/themes/light_green/images/theme/bg.png);
   font: 78%/130% "Verdana", "Arial", "Helvetica", sans-serif;
   margin: 0 auto;
   padding: 15px 0;
}

Simply replace this string (http://images.smfboards.com/caf/themes/light_green/images/theme/bg.png) [your string will look different unless your using the  light_green style], with the direct location of your background.

Post a link to your forums so we can see how it turned out.

Good luck!

Could someone please check to see if they have any text in the Dark_Blue style sheet modify box?

Admin>Style Manager>Style Picker = Dark_Blue
Click 'Modify Style' next to 'Dark_Blue', there should be text in the box that is the css style sheet. In my case, and another's it's a blank box.

Thanks for checking!
