Title: Search Engines
Post by: CB on August 25, 2011, 08:33:23 am

Not sure where this goes. Maybe in Advertise You Forum? MODS, move this to wherever.

Anyway, how do we go about adding our sites to search engines like Google or any other search engine for that matter, to get hits and increase traffic?

Also, how do I had a code that lets me know what my daily traffic is to the site?

Thanks.

Okay, doing a bit more research, I went with Google and its Google Webmaster Central. I added my site and now it's asking me to verify my site by uploading the HTML Verification file. But where and how do I upload the file?  ???

Anyone?

I need help with this otherwise my forum is useless if I can't get traffic to it. It doesn't matter if it's HTML or Metatags. Whichever works is what I will go with. I'm just clueless about where to copy/paste/upload.

I would have to build something for meta tags but could be done.

Any info on how and where to do the HTML uploading process? It doesn't have to be metatag specifically. One or the other that gets my site verified and into Google Search.

Thanks.

File uploads won't work the only thing I can do is a meta tag system.

So none of the sites created using CreateAForum can be attached to Google or any other search engines then?support? Then how are people to create traffic if HTML and Metatags aren't even active with the software?

They are auto submitted to google search engines you don't have to do anything.

Ok, so then everything is already verified with Google? So then how do I track how many people of visiting the site daily, weekly?

Okay. Just signed up for Google Analytics. Where do I paste the code? It says to copy onto every page? But where am I copying it specifically? The instructions assume we are to know what we are doing. I don't. ???

Okay. I've pasted the code into the footer. How do I check to see if it's working from my forum? Or do I go elsewhere for that?

Okay. Everything is where it needs to be regarding Analytics, but it takes 24 hours for info on the site to kick in. Now, getting back to adding my forum into Google. You said it's automatically added to Google, yet when I verify my forum, it says it can't be found and says Verification failed.

So, I don't know what's going on with this.

For support for Google Analytics, it's better to ask on Google's support forum: http://www.google.com/support/forum/
Your website will be automatically added to Google's search engine because bots go to your website and take a look at it. You can easily find out if your website in Google's search results by typing in:
Sites: FORUM.createaforum.com

That actually does nothing for me. What it actually does is just direct itself right to the forum itself rather than bringing up a list from Google.

Well if you see it in the search results after typing that in, it means that your forum is in Google's search results at least however you won't be able to know what page it's on

There are no search results. Typing as you suggested just sends it directly to the forum page. No search list whatsoever.

Well first, make sure you also added in "sites:" and second, don't try searching from the address bar. Go to Google.com and try to search from there, there shouldn't be a reason why it directly took you to your forum page

I did as you suggested by doing search with Google.com. Nada. No hits at all.
