Title: Problem for forum members posting photos
Post by: JimD on July 21, 2019, 12:38:26 am
Hi,We have a continuing problem with our forum that we would really like to get fixed.
If you view thew below video you will see the convoluted method that members need to follow to post a photo.
How can this be fixed? Any help would be great appreciated.

Main issue is the dropdowns?
I made a minor change right now to keep the default method that the admin selects the default for the additional options.
Otherwise the admin  has the option to control the defaults:

Hello and thank you for the quick response.
Its now the same as the Create a forum.
To post an image I have to -
1. Browse and select the file

2. The next line is as you know Inline full-size image but nothing happens (its not added to the post)
3. I have to go to the drop down and choose something else and then that's added, then I need to go back to the drop down and reselect Inline full-size image

4. Then I need to delete the original selected ie Inline Text link, Inline short text link etc
I hope that makes some sense and explains the issue.

Yes, that makes sense Jim and I would really like to see it fixed as steps 3 and 4 are quite a nuisance and keeping many new members from trying to post...  :-\

I changed so the default option is no longer selected. That should fix the issue of having to change options.

Thank you very much, that's now allowed for In Line Full Size Image to be selected without having to first choose another option and then In Line Full Size Image and have to go back and delete the first option chosen.
Much appreciated !

Dear Createaforum admin,

re: www.officeofsteamforum.com

Please fix our photo uploading abilities.
It has never been right since I built our forum late February and early March 2019.
We need the ability to upload files up to 5 or 6 Megabytes and up to 25 attachments with no limit on total size of post or a total post limit of 50 MB. If the total post size is problematic, we could try 15 or 20 MB total post size.

Also, I don't quite understand the attachment size which looks like it changed after we set up from kb to kB or something. I increased the accepted file size from 8,192 to 51,200 because I suspected that it may be that kB equals kilobits.

Most of all.... Please let us just load inline full sized images without having to go through the convoluted method of first having to select upload for thumbnail followed immediately by selection inline full size image.

This should not be made so difficult for me and my members.
Thank you in advance.

Gil - RedRyder  www.officeofsteamforum.com

We are a model engine forum photos are a huge part of our forum participation. All members want to post and see larger photos without having to
do so much mucking around.
We also want the easy ability to post multiple photos in one post.

What a the main problem is we don't need five (5) options to post a photo. We just need one Inline Full-size Image it will make life so much easier for the membership.
That's what were after, we would like a member to be able to 'just post a large photo up' without having to faff around with five (5) image choices and be able to easily post muliple photos.
Presently (and thank you) you did fix the initial photo posting with your change to Inline Full-size Image but second and any subsequent photos posted in the same post are still problematic.
I hope that I have shed some clarity on the issue that is vexing us so much and causing frustration to members who aren't all that computer savvy and just want a simple way to post photos of their pride and joy up to be enjoyed by other members.

If you are getting an internal server on  upload attachment
Either the sum of all the attachments is greater than 50mb
Or the file upload is taking too long. How long does it take to upload the files.

In a nutshell, our members just want to post Inline Full-Size Images We don't need the extra 4 options -

Inline Expandable Thumbnail - End of Post Expandable Thumbnail - Inline Text Link - Inline Short Text Link

They are just causing problems and confusion and making the posting of images very difficult -

I found one other spot that looks like capped uploads to 10mb total.

I raised that to 50mb as well.

That should fix the internal server on uploads as look as less than 50mb

But is there a way to make only one option as Jim pointed out? As in only "inline full-size image"?

In his video above, it shows that when posting our 2nd, 3rd, etc. picture we have to select the wrong option, delete it and then select "inline full-size image" This is far too difficult to explain to our members and too difficult for them to figure out, so they are simply not posting images at all...

It would be much easier to click "choose file" and have it added to the post automatically...

Ok, will undo the changes I made that I thought would help.... I will no longer preselect at all the custom size option based on the inline attachment settings chosen...

The admin on the forum -> in line attachments they can also do the basic menu option which reduces the options shown...

I find that I can now load multiple full sized images.
I tested with 6 of them.

This seems to work only with my admin privileges.

It will not work for a regular member as far as I can see.

My wife's attempt:

There should be no difference between admin and a regular member when posting.

True but there is clearly a difference in this case.

Also, her photo selection bar is longer and the select button is on the right and not the left and you can't make it provide an inline full sized image.

Is a personal setting change required or similar?

In addition... Could you please shed some light on this:  ,watt," />

It has appeared in the top left of our index page in the dark blue bar at the top.
See pictures attached.

Who put it there?
Why is it there?
What is it?

Thank you.

Fixed. Do not add any html tags to your meta description tag.  You had <meta name="google-site-verification" content="v8g1RZGJ0RxdDHYwHZOuf1lMakw_kTE4CgU44D8XykI" /> in there which caused that issue. That goes in the meta tags section. But you already have it there.

I don't understand. I added the google site verification a while back and that just appeared in the last day or two.
Google requires that in the header for verification that I own the site so I can post a live link to our forum at the end of my videos.

Hopefully they won't require it to stay there.
I do not see the word watt  ,watt," /> in any of the google verification you have showed us.

Gil

It was at the end of your meta description tag that is built into the board
Quote
<meta name="description" content="steam,engine,gas,engines,stirling,cycle,scale,model,engines,dynamo,antique,steam,toy,motor, engine forum,.sideshaft,side shaft,Jensen steam Engine, Jensensteamengines,Jensen,domestic,smokstak,unofficial,mamod,steam plant,Bing,doll,Marklin,hot air engine,E Plank,plank,Radiguet,Carette,Kraus Mohr,Callahan, Galloway,Crossley,Otto,otto engine,slide valve,otto langen,deutz,olds gearless, olds,witte,fuller Johnson,red wing,speingfield,new Holland engine,sipp,perkins,cretors,stuart,stuart turner,stuart steam engine,Red Ryder,RedRyder,reddrryder,coolspring,coolspring power museum, craftsmanship museum, engine museum,museum,watt," />

Looks like the meta tag was recently added to it. before ,watt  which caused the error.
