Title: Hello forum owners,How can we compete with Facebook and twitter?
Post by: hudumapoa on February 18, 2015, 01:05:26 pm
Yes it is time to think and find new weapons that can pull Facebook addicted  users and twitter lovers change their mind and come to hung up on your forum you admin.

Before Facebook and twitter we had no competitions. Users were able to pay for chat rooms, pay for sending private messages to friends. Some websites had limits on time a user can stay on website for free. Only premium members were able to access all website features without a limit.

Today convincing a person to stay on your forum can be some thing difficult because this user has multiple account on Facebook and multiple account on twitter since it is free to access all features on those social networks.

I guess many forum owners have aim of making some profit from those forums so they have to think about how they can survive online. If you do not think how you can survive with your forum business you can find yourself you are out of ground. You create a forum today then tomorrow will be your forum death day because you will fail to run your forum. People never create a post on your forum, people never come back to your forum they leave you alone attending the forum daily ha ha ha ha!

So let us discuss how we can add value to our forums so that online population can ignore using Facebook and twitter instead let them come to your forum hourly and create posts for your forum growth. Also let Us discuss how we can monetize our forums so that we can survive online and improve the services we offer to forum users.

Why not start an online forum and became your viable business? But is it possible?

Your confusion is not knowing the 'real' difference between a forum and a social media environment.
They are clearly and well defined two different things.

We are living in an 'instant gratification' world.  No longer do people have patience to wait for or read thru multiple articles of information to find an answer.

Sponsor a giveaway via a forum, and watch your numbers climb in 'give me something for nothing' entries.  With any luck, you'll get 1% of those entries to return as regulars to your forum.

Forums are clearly a left over of the old BBS days.

I do wish to reply
1. Much of what you see appearing in a Facebook group is utter nonsense. Such as: "I had toast for breakfast," followed son after by "12 likes."
2. Facebook only shows a small percentage of stuff to your followers. If you want more followers to see it you have to pay to "boost" your post.
3. Some of Facebook's business practices are "dubious" at best since they set about monetizing their site which produces nothing at all.
4. Facebook can, and do, shut down pages and groups without warning. You have no ultimate control over anything you do there.
5. Facebook has become a sea of targeted advertising.
I could continue this rant but I'm mindful my writing here could be around for many years to come - searchable, and easily found on Google, unlike anything posted on Facebook where it will rapidly be swallowed up by pictures of someone's cat they continue to post - repeatedly!

Forums can be rather successful if you find a proper niche to fill, and find a way to advertize to that niche.
