I think a very nice, valuable addition would be a Registration Reminder system.  Customizable threshold and message.

An email message that goes out? Like inactive members?

Yes a customizable one.  With the feature that would let guests click on post to read but a limited number.  A threshold number that is set by Admin before a message displayed on screen reminding them to Register to become a Member.  Like 4 or 5 clicks before they would get the reminder.
