Title: HELP NEEDED!
Post by: Sara50840 on July 14, 2013, 06:40:30 pm
My forum has an extremely small moderation team, and I need your help to make it larger!  Please join my forum and apply to be a moderator, administrator, or board monitor if you are interested.

Staff that you can apply for:

Administrators: Administrators have access to everything on my forum.  Thry can edit anything that can also be edited, including your profile.

Moderators: Moderators monitor my forum and make sure that it is safe and secure.  They can report users and put them on watch.

Board Monitors: Board Monitors monitor the boards and categories of my forum.  They give monthly (at least) reports stating the most active boards and categories and how they are working out.  They can request that a board or category to be deleted due to inactivity.

How to apply to become a part of my forum staff:

13 members have posted 130 times in 4 months - why would you need all those moderators ?

and 119 of those posts came from you and one other

If my forum ever actually gets more members, I will need a team prepared.  If I get more members and I am not prepared with a moderation team, it will all be on me and one other person.  I will have to somehow find a way to build my moderation team fast.  Otherwise, I'll be in big trouble.  That's why I'm starting now.

actually, it's the other way around. Build up your member base and posts, then select a Mod from one of the respected members - don't just 'advertise' the post and give permissions to someone you don't know or trust. See other threads here where 'Mods' have run away with control of your forum and blocked out the original Admin.

Moderation of a non-commercial forum is easy and not time consuming. Set up the censorship section to **** out offensive or disallowed words etc.

Ask members to 'report' posts - pretty straight forward really

I'm going to have to agree with Wholesale.
I was on a site once, and I was the only moderator for a while, until they got 500 members and around 10,000 posts. Only then did the admin pick around 3 or 4 lower-ranked moderators to help us out.

Thanks for the ideas.  But how do I get more members?  I'm even working hard on a mainsite and making it really awesome, but nobody sees it.  Not even the members of my own forum will go there.  (At least not participate, with my knowledge.)  All of my forum members just have seemed to have joined, post about how they really like the forum and all, and then they never come back.  I want to know how to get them to come back and how to get more members.

More threads and posts which get people wanting to converse. I pay content writers/bloggers to write interesting posts for me, at about £5-£10 a time

Good idea, but how will anyone know that my forum is there?

Good quality, unique content gets noticed by google, so if anyone searches keywords relevant to your site, google should find you, and you then hope people click the link. But if no one is searching for what your forum provides - you're stuck !

Is anyone searching for your site in particular ? What do you have to offer ? I've looked - and left straight away. It don't jump out and tell me what it's all about and awesomeness means nothing to me !

Also, you need to totally change the way it looks, get rid of the black - thats for gamers and devil worshippers. Put some banners up.  Get rid of the Ezblock home page - have you looked at mine ?

Mines been up for 5-6 weeks now. Google 'Wholesale Chat Forum' and my site comes up as first choice !

you don't need the home page to be the Ezportal one. If anyone visits your site, they'll be expecting to see a forum, so take them straight to it. Instead, you have built in a link to it to open up in another browser - I think thats why you refer to it as your 'main site'.

do this

Admin>EzPortal>Settings> un tick 'Enable Portal Homepage', then your forum will be displayed first

Try it !

Q: How do I put a banner on my forum?

A: Admin > Layout Settings > Theme Settings > Logo Image URL    Put the direct link to the image in the box.

Firstly, you'll need to get your banner hosted - I use imageshack.us

go to Admin>Style Manager>Headers and Footers.

In the Headers box put this code in.

<div style="text-align: center;">

<a href="http://ENTER YOUR WEBSITE HOME PAGE URL HERE INCLUDING THE http PART"><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://ENTER YOUR BANNER IMAGE LINK HERE" style="width: 100%; height:110%"/><div></a> <div style="text-align: left;">

Whatever that is supposed to do, I don't think it worked.  What does it do?
