Title: Wish to have my own host
Post by: Free Zones Review on January 02, 2013, 01:39:11 pm
Hello,

Would I be able to move my forum to my own host? The domain redirecting is not an ideal solution as the URL for all pages looks the same!

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much.

You can use your own domain with us if you use the domain manager. That will change all the urls to your domain

Thank you very much for the quick response. However, I would need a little more help with this as I am pretty new to this stuff :-(

I have the domain freezonesreview.com registered through iPage.com. I tried to change the nameservers in iPage but it appeared as a "Not Valid" name server. Their help desk suggested that I get the correct name servers from CreateAForum.

Now I am completely lost. My requirements can be listed as follows:

- To use my own domain name www.freezonesreview.com for the forum.
- To have clear URLs for each of the pages (not a common URL for the entire forum as it happens when performing a pointer using stealth settings or domain cloaking), without showing any information about CreateAForum (I can upgrade to a higher level with CreateAForum)
- TO have email addresses with the same domain names (such as info@freezonesreview.com)

It would be great if I could achieve these.

Thanks again.

Contact ipage.com and say you need to create ns1.freezonesreview.com and ns2.freezonesreview.com both pointed to ip address of 68.233.250.132

First two are easily possible.
Own email address would take a little more setup you would need to find a free email provider. I used to recommend google apps but no longer offered.

That sounds great.....let me try to request them to create the nameservers.

I am more than willing to pay for the email service, if I can get it under my domain name.

Will be back soon with the results.

This seems to be possible, if you can update the MX records for my domain (Freezonesreview.com) after the update of nameservers. I have submitted the request to create the nameservers.

Yeah I can do the mx records no problem there.

Thanks a million. In this case I can achieve all the targets! Domain and unlimited emails from iPage (though I am paying a little more , a great forum from hosted in CreateAForum with proper URLs for all pages! Including my own footers on every page would make it perfect!

The nameservers are set. Can you please help me for remaining steps?

Thank you.

Looks good all ready to go.
Wait about 24 hours.
Then in domain manager use the change url function and should be set.

And that will change all the urls on your board.

Cool. Could you please set the MX records for iPage here? This will help me to set the emails.

Appreciate your assistance.

I can't thank you enough. Will update the results soon.

iPage still says "The Email for freezonesreview.com does not currently route here. New domains can take 24-48 hours to become fully functional. If it's not a new domain, you may need to update your MX Records (http://www.ipage.com/knowledgebase/article.bml?ArticleID=1824) or Name Servers (http://www.ipage.com/knowledgebase/article.bml?ArticleID=166&type=How%20To#Nugget_225) for your mail to route to our servers."

Waiting for it to get updated :-(

I checked with mxtoolbox.com hopefully that was right mx entry.

JUst had a word with iPage support.....there seems to be a problem with the MX Records. They suggest that it might not be set correct.

Could you please look into this? The domain is www.freezonesreview.com and the MX record is mx.ipage.com.

By the way, my forum is almost live now at www.freezonesreview.com (Thanks a lot for your support for this). Need to have some final touches. It would be up and running once the MX records and the emails are set.

Thank you.

Hello,

I would need assistance with the following for a quick launch of the forum;

- Set the mx records
- Upgrade the forum (not sure how this works now as the URLs have already been changed).

Could you please advise?

Thank you.

1. Fixed. Issue was when you change the url in the domain manager overwrote the mx record that i added. Have now set the dns to read only for your domain.

2. What do you mean by upgrade forum?
Title: Re: Wish to have my own host

Thanks a lot!!

I wish to upgrade the package on CAF to unlimited Ad free page views. When I click on "upgrade" at the bottom of the page, it takes me to "http://www.freezonesreview.com/upgrades.php".

But since the URL of the forum has been modified, I am concerned if this would work properly. Could you please advise?

Thanks again for all your efforts.

GOOD NEWS.....the email is working fine now!!

All that remains is taking the advertisements out of the web pages and put my own branding (upgrading to a higher plan with CAF). How do I do this?

Thanks a lot :)

For the url on the upgrades page only enter

freezonereviewforum

And then you should be set to go. It based on your old subdomain name.

Slowly but steadily I am moving towards my goal! The forum has been upgraded and email account has been created.

Now I have a completely different problem and I think it would be the biggest concern that I have for my forum.

I did a quick search in Google for "Site: freezonereview.com"

The title of the first result was "Create a Forum User Help (http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=site%3A%20freezonesreview.com&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&ved=0CC4QFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.freezonesreview.com%2Findex.php%3Faction%3Dhelp&ei=6R3vUM_oG8bEtAaByoHYCQ&usg=AFQjCNGhNiWY9bRLU5fdgxfgVdOmSxHJUg&bvm=bv.1357700187,d.Yms)"
I seriously do not want this tab in my forum. I though I was able to get all these things out when I upgraded.

But if this is the first page that appears in search results, then it would be a disaster. Could you please help me with this?

I would rather need SEO friendly pages.

Thank you so much in anticipation.

freezonereview.com is new has no rankings yet those take time to build.
I could add an option to remove the help tab.
Title: Re: Wish to have my own host
Post by: Free Zones Review on January 10, 2013, 08:29:09 pm
I would really appreciate that :)

Sure, I understand it would take time to build the rankings and traffic. I am trying to learn some basics towards achieving this and would need a lot of assistance from you guys!

Please guide me if you have any literature or step by step guidance for SEO in these forums.

Another question is how to give permission for guests to view certain boards only?

Title: Re: Wish to have my own host
Post by: Free Zones Review on January 11, 2013, 10:48:51 am
Well....sorted the permission question :)

Please help me with the following;

- To remove the help tab from the forum
- FB and Twitter Account settings - how to link the facbook and twitter profiles with the forum
- Do you have an option to link Linkedin profile with the forum?
- What can be done to optimize the forum for search engines?

Thanks a lot as always!

Apologies in advance for asking so many questions that are very basic....

I have been trying to include a logo into the Forum (using the header). But where do I upload the image first to get the URL?

For this part you would need to find a free image host to upload the file to. Or you can host inside our gallery system and get the url from that.

Meta Tags are one of the few ways for you to optimize your forum for search engines on CreateAForum.
Title: Re: Wish to have my own host
Post by: Free Zones Review on January 12, 2013, 05:19:06 am
Sure will try uploading the images. I first tried the Gallery within my forum but could not find a URL for the image. I should try an image host.

I need to learn how to include the meta tags :( . I tried from the Admin section but all meta tags started appearing on the header.  :'(

Please don't forget my other questions;

- To remove the help tab from the forum- FB and Twitter Account settings - how to link the facbook and twitter profiles with the forum- Do you have an option to link Linkedin profile with the forum?
Title: Re: Wish to have my own host
Post by: aIURbliS on January 12, 2013, 06:32:05 pm
Removing the help tab: CreateAForum will need to make a feature to disable it.
Linking Facebook and Twitter profiles: What exactly do you mean by linking it? Do you want the links to their facebook/twitter profiles to show on the user's profiles on your forum?
Linking Linkedin profiles: Just did a quick search and found plugins that Linkedin offers - https://developer.linkedin.com/plugins
Title: Re: Wish to have my own host
Post by: Free Zones Review on January 12, 2013, 07:27:05 pm
Great guys.....thanks a million!

I have been able to;

- Include the logo
- Linkedin Share button (it would be good to have the code for Like button for facebook too)

By linking facebook and linkedin users should be able to login using their accounts in facebook or linkedin. I tried this from the profile settings but it says wrong domain name >:(

How long would it take to remove the help tab? If it takes long, it would be ideal to keep it but all the references to CAF need to be removed.

I tried to activate the ad locations through ad seller pro.....but the location are not showing anything :(

You can actually log in with accounts from many different services, just click the Login button and below the login fields, there are options to log in with services such as Facebook and Twitter.
Title: Re: Wish to have my own host
Post by: Free Zones Review on January 13, 2013, 04:43:19 pm
I just missed that bcoz I have always been logging in using the login at the top left corner. Will try the other options.

I am all set to launch my forum to a wider audience but need to remove the Help tab from the forum. Please help me with this.

Would need some help with the Ad Seller Pro (can't see the Ad location) which it can be done at a later stage or I can spend more time trying different options. But removing the Help session would really help me at this stage :)

Thanks a lot guys!

For the ad seller pro locations. Make sure you give all the membergroups that you want to have access to them otherwise they will not be shown.

Also you need to an ad to an location for it to appear.
Title: Re: Wish to have my own host
Post by: Free Zones Review on January 13, 2013, 06:42:30 pm
I am very sorry, but, could not see the option to sign in using any of the social media anywhere in my forum  :( . I checked all the possible login options (from top left corner and from the menu bar) but did not see any option to sign in using social media accounts.

In addition, tried the FB Post Topics System under Admin>Configuration>FB Post Topics System>Sign in with your Facebook Account.

But it showed An error occurred. Please try again later

So I tried Profile>Social Login Merge Account> and clicked on facebook icon....but again I received the message "Failed - Invalid site Domain". So I'm kind of stuck there.

Now moving on to the Ad Seller Pro, there have been some improvements in the results :)

I was able to test some text ads and everything seems to be fine except that the link takes the user from the forum to the target website (it does not open in a new window or tab). Any solutions?

Should I keep the tab "Advertise" on to see the Ad Locations. I activated the tab once, but now it does not go away when opted out of it!

Most important question of all - how long it may take to remove the help tab from the forum? This is very critical for me.

Apologies for so many questions but I think it will help everyone here.

Social logins currently do not work for custom domain users. Same with the Facbeook,Twitter autoposting topics. But I might fix the last two.

That's really sad!! Is there any chance that we could include the social logins in the future?

How long it may take to remove the "Help" tab? What should be done to open the ads on a different window or tab?

I can't thank you guys enough.

Help tab?? Just waiting on this one to start promoting my forum (sorry to sound very desperate, but I am very eager to see some results after a lot of learning and efforts put into this).

Hello CAF and xboi209,

Could you please give me a hint on the possibilities of removing the Help tab?

If you think you can make it within a few days, I can definitely wait. Please let me know if it would take longer. If that's the case, I will have to go ahead with the tab (I would be greatly disappointed with this as I was expecting a forum that was branded exclusively for me and that's the reason why I chose the unlimited plan :( ).

In either case, some directions from your side would be greatly appreciated as it would help me to take a final decision on this at the earliest.

Thank you.

Follow directions to hide tabs on your forums: http://support.createaforum.com/5/(code)-hide-tabs-v2/
Note that bots/users with javascript disabled will still be able to see the help tab.

Brilliant.....this will be fine till we have a permanent solution.

From whatever we have discussed here, I have certain suggestions to improve the features. Can I summarise them here or should I post on Suggestions board?

Thanks again.

Absolutely no problems....I do understand.

Will post the comments on Suggestions board.

Meanwhile, I have been testing my Forum using Google Webmaster tools. The result shows that there is no Site Map submitted for the forum. I'm not sure how to upload the dynamic Site Maps. Is there any restrictions for forums with custom domain name?

Tried to create a Site Map online, but the file has to be uploaded into the domain root folder. Would you be able to help? Please let me know how to update the site map for a dynamic forum.
