Title: Maintenance Mode

Id like to know what actually happens when a forum is put in maintenance mode. I see quite a number of forums in maintenance mode, and i don't know the reason for which maintenance mode be activated

No one can access your site or post. Only admins have access

I mean, does the forum actually maintain itself when put on maintenance mode

No, it simply means that your forum is off limits to everyone except admins. If you're doing a complete makeover of your forum, you wouldn't want your members to be seeing a half empty forum while you're changing stuff to it.
