Title: Registering Problems
Post by: CB on February 08, 2012, 02:34:15 pm
I've had a couple of people complaining that about joining my forum. They say they are having issues signing up. What can I do on my part to fix this and make it easier?

The error message that pops up is "The website cannot display the page" when pressing the "register" button. How to fix this?

Hmm haven't seen that occur before. Find out what browser they are using and what time of day it is occuring on.

This is what the latest member trying to register with the site said popped up as it's error message.

This is what Chrome said when I tried to register:
Server error
The website encountered an error while retrieving http://pennycan.createaforum.com/index.p... (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/index.php?action=register;PHPSESSID=f420209afecce97d81e53ba547b6bbfa.) It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.
Here are some suggestions:
Reload this webpage later.
HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error): An unexpected condition was encountered while the server was attempting to fulfill the request.

This needs to be addressed and fixed.

Haven't been able to recreate the issue so do not have an idea on want to change.

Have registered on my own sites and your site using multiple browsers without issue.

Ask them how they are registering and what they are inputting.

Member said they were in Singapore. Does location have any bearing on this? Or connection speed?

Yeah, I'm beginning to think it's on each members location. But I don't know where to look for the blocklist to double check.

But isn't it within Create a Forum? Somewhere inside of the Admin section?

We use stopforumspam.com as part of the block list which you can do a lookup there.
