Making a limited view for non-members/guests?
« on: July 25, 2020, 03:24:30 pm »
Please forgive me if this has been covered somewhere else.

I am a physician in Alberta, Canada.  With recent government changes our public healthcare system is under hostile attack.  With relentless pressure and a media campaign designed to discredit all doctors, our patients are losing their access to healthcare (and the money is going to corporations to set up profit healthcare to the exclusion of the medical establishment).  The minister of health has gone so far to now be personally attacking individual doctors, phoning them in the middle of the night and even showing up on their doorsteps to shout obscenities at them and threaten their families.  I am not making this up.  And, through legislative attack the ministry and the premiere have gone about dismantling our regulatory college and our support association.

In any case, a small group of doctors has formed and is trying to organize the rest of the doctors into a grassroots movement to save healthcare and our livelihoods and our patients.  I have started up a forum using create a forum.  Once we get a revenue stream I would love to pay for service enhancements to make it all work better.

But, to get to my question.  Considering the need for privacy, this forum needs a way to be not completely open to people until they have joined the forum and proven themselves to be who they are.  At this moment, when you go directly to our forum, you can see all the activity as a guest.  So, no one will be comfortable discussing anything for fear of personal oppression.

Is there a way to limit the guest view or similar functionality?

Thanks for any attention and answers this gets.  If this works for us then the team that made this will know that they inadvertently helped 10,000 doctors defend their patient's healthcare access against hostile attack.

Two we have a private board upgrade one time fee disables guests from viewing anything on the forum at all.

The second option is you can control permissions of each board on your forum. Under Admin -> Boards
Edit the board then change which membergroups have access to the board.

Thank you for your timely and professional help.  It is such a relief to know that someone is there to solve problems for me.  When we get the money together I am going to insist that we support this platform as much as we can.  Whatever it costs, it will probably be easily worth twice as much.

Thanks again

John

Would you by chance also be able to tell me how to determine the membergroup ID number.  I am setting up the registration settings and it asks for this number and I cannot find a reference to this anywhere else.  I know 1 is admin.  But, it doesn't seem to be just a case of "Counting the groups" as the 5th membergroup in the listings elsewhere does not correspond with a membergroup ID of 5

For Regular groups  not Post Based Groups

You can find the id by clicking the modiyf link under admin -> membergroups

Then in the address you will see the group id: example index.php?action=admin;area=membergroups;sa=edit;group=2
