Lost 5 Thousand Posts!?
« on: February 16, 2012, 02:50:53 pm »
Hello, I could really use your help. a few days ago, my counter showed that I had over 10,000 posts on my discussion site, now, I have just over 5,000. What happened to lose  5,000 posts? Also, threads are missing as well.  :o

I am the only moderator. Is there any way that system upgrades or optimization procedures on creataforum's end could have caused this?

Thanks

No. Haven't done any changes in  a while and there is no automated task.

Only ways to delete posts in mass. Is if you delete a board. Or under forum maintenance if you delete posts in x amount of days.

I would also try under forum maintenance to do a check for forum errors.

Checked for forum errors, there were none.

I do not believe this was the problem, however, anything is possible. Since the files are kept on your system, is it possible that you could retrieve these lost files?

PS: what settings would I choose if I always want every post and thread, no matter how old?

Thanks

Tony

No settings need to be changed as the system does not auto delete posts/threads without user intervention

Possibly but would be extremely hard to recover. I have a backup done every 30 days and would need to extract the files out of giant zip file which has millions of record and then figure out which ones are missing.

Okay, good to know.

This really brings up an important issue: The need to be able to make backups of each board or forum at a user level. Would you agree that this is important?

Thanks

It is important. The one thing though backups are extremely processor intensive and can slow down hosted boards. I might build a schedule system to schedule backups at non peek times.

I understand. However, you could make it a premium service and charge for it on the user level or include it free for a paid hosted account like you do on the other add-on services. This way the processor time is not overloaded. Perhaps individual backups could be scheduled for slow traffic times, etc...

Thanks!

Yeah that would be the general idea I would do. Just need the time I run this site and many others, software, and a small office.
Now if only I could add some more tech people to build everything for me now that would be great.

Should also make an option so the Admin can choose when to back up, with a limit on how many times you can back up your forum every 30 days of course.
All codes I make are tested on the latest version of Google Chrome and upon request of other browsers.
