How to redirect or export forum to subdomain
« on: June 24, 2017, 03:55:55 am »
So I understand how to change the nameservers from my domain to my host
However that leaves me no way to redirect my forum.

My forum domain is currently: http://www.openholdemstoreforum.com/
Our website (Not published yet but will be on July 1st) is: http://pokerbot.com
We would like to park our forum at: http://pokerbot.com/forum or http://forum.pokerbot.com
Is there anyway to do this other than nameserver change (which we cannot do as they are already changed for the host)
Or can you export it to the domain?

Thanks you and look forward to hearing back

Ok we did that.  Now do you need to do something on your end so that it redirects correctly?

Hi!   So....   This is the issue...

We want the entire forum to be hosted on forum.pokerbot.com so that when people visit your forum, its completely on our URL..  I think this is the same thing your saying, but for whatever reason when we goto forum.pokerbot.com, it redirects to http//openholdemstoreforum.com   (notice!!! the colon ":" missing!!).   But either way, we dont want it to redirect, but rather be hosted from forum.pokerbot.com

Also, its going to be important that the the url is https all the time and not http if you can accommodate that.    We are trying to get google to pick up on SEO with our new site.

I am not seeing the redirection if i enter http://forum.pokerbot.com
All the links for the forum itself stay on the domain.

If you need SSL you need to signup for https://www.cloudflare.com/ssl/  they have a free plan and thay require the whole domain to be updated not just the subdomain of forum pointed to them.  If you want us to direct install an SSL that will require fees for the certificate or if you buy your own. Will still involve us setting it up and possibly require a dedicated IP as well in order for that to function which would be an extra cost.

If we have to pay the extra cost for SSL setup, is there a chance you guys could do a sub directory instead during the setup process?   https://pokerbot.com/forum ?   That would really help with SEO and could help us justify the cost.    Looking for an understanding of the cost for a dedicated ip / ssl setup / sub directory.

We get a free ssl cert from our domain provider, and I can make sure the definition is there for the ssl certificate for the subdomain.

Hey, thank you for being so damn accommodating :)

I can't do a subdirectory since that would be on your main domain. Cloudfare might be able to do for free for the ssl but you would need to change your main domains DNS. And i would suggest not proxying your main www and a record during the cloudfare setup.

Not to bring this up again, but when you export the sql db for $50, is it possible to just import into wordpress?
We really need this for search ranking SEO

No that would require custom programming as that is a different system than forums.

So is there no way to do this?
I know phpbb has a plugin to do it on Wordpress

BBpress allows import of csv file
Not sure if that would work or not...

It can be possible but you would have to hire a coder to write a conversion script.
