A timeout function for guests
« on: April 25, 2020, 08:48:19 am »
I Give guests permissions to see the majority of the boards but i would like to set a timer that would say " To continue reading these boards you need to be a registered member"

I think guest will read your posts and not register.
If you don't show them any posts they will leave anyway.
If they are half way through a quality post and the message to  continue reading this post, you must register comes up, i think i would be in with a chance.

That is not something that I have built in. You might be able to code something with javascript though to do that.

I reckon i can figure this out.
I have been over to this site    https://www.w3schools.com/js/js_timing.asp

                                            https://www.w3schools.com/jsref/tryit.asp?filename=tryjsref_win_open5

This looks simple enough but what i need to know is when i have created the script, where would i paste it to.

I was thinking of an ezblock and paste into the html.. and give permissions only to guests .

Do you think it would work?

I'm an old timer and struggle with this stuff

Not a bad idea! I think that might do the trick.

This was not a good plan .
I created a test script in java to take me to another page , it did not work and it is now looping the same page every 2 seconds and wont let me in to switch it off.
So unless you can switch it of at your end, i have just lost 200 hours work.
Just goes to show if you don,t know what your doing , don't mess with it.
Can you please see if it can be repaired?
This is urgent!!!

Yeah can get tricky if you get stuck in a loop. Some people here have a test forum setup just to do testing with.
