Codings for Headers and Footers
« on: August 27, 2013, 01:12:05 am »
Hello support people,

For some time now since I first created my forum (The New Retreat) I have included coding for  Cbox  in the header.

Earlier this year I changed some coding/words for something else I also had in the header.

Today I went to change this and got this message  "Chatboxes are not allowd in headers and footers. If you wish to use add the code to an ezportal page.". Why has this apparently changed?

I do not use EzPortal at all so why am I getting this message when all I wish to do is to change some text I have in there about paint nights?

My forum is http://thenewretreat.createaforum.com/ which I have had for 3 years in October.

As at this time I do not wish to install EzPortal so how am I able to change said text I wish to change please?

Where else am I am able include the Cbox coding I currently use, if at all?

Thanks and best regards

Ps I do not feel I have enough expertise to install Ezportal if that is the only solution.

You can use them in ezportal pages. You do not have to activate the main portal system itself.
And instead you can use an ezportal page to contain your chatbox.

I went into Admin and looked at Ezportal On each it says this "ezPortal allows you to setup a portal for your forum. Including a custom homepage along with blocks that can placed on your forum." with a link to install.

I clicked on that and have it 'installed'. How do I know add My Cbox please?

Oh it says that My Ezportal is not up to date. It shows as version 1.1 and says there is a version 1.2.

I am completely lost to be honest..

There should be a manage pages area under ezPortal which you can add it to. I had to make the changes with shoutboxes due to google not allowing it on all pages they only want it on one page.

Thanks.

I see a box to enable shout box so clicked on that and saved setting. I cannot see a shout box anywhere.

Yes I am somewhat  a novice with this setting.

Cheers

If you want to use the ezportal shoutbox then you need to add a block under manage blocks with a type of shoutbox

If you do it under add page. Place the code in the html and you can use the existing cbox code

Scrub that as I found it My question now is how do I and others actually see the Cbox and where?

Do I need to log out and in again before seeing it?

This is the coding I have for one of my custom tabs that are not working. http://thenewretreat.createaforum.com/index.php#c2
Would the codes change with having EzPortal now installed?

The codes wouldn't affect the custom tabs.

For the shoutbox you would use a custom tab to link to an ezportal page.

Well I have finally got a custom tab and it works for the Cbox.

Also have the shout box working.

That's the good news.

The not so good news is that the other custom tabs I have set only take me to "Forum'. That is the button after 'Home". I guess that with ezportal now having the "Forum' buttons there that the links for my other (existing) tabs have somehow changed?

Would you check this link http://thenewretreat.createaforum.com/index.php#c2 and you tell me what it shows. For me it shows the Home and Forum Buttons as well as the Shout box. That particular link should take members to what I have called 'Auctions' and sadly as I hope you will see does not.

I believe that this and My other links for custom tabs need to be modified in order for them to work.

Thanks for the help support has give Me already. It is much appreciated.

Me again.

I have noticed that with installing ExPortal I no long have the Help button.

and

The custom tabs are still not working.

Another question relating to the EzyBlocks. What is the Menu block and how and what am I able to add to that please?

As you might be able to tell I am trying to work My around Ezportal and gain a better understanding. Is there a link that would explain Ezportal in lay mans terms please?
After I posted this I found the Ezportal tutorial. Cannt see anything specific to Menu though but will re read later
