Well, considering he custom codes everything.....
 
Give the bot an "expire" time. Every month, it sends off an email to the admin, reminding him/her to re-activate the bot. 5 days after that.....bot gets disabled, and the board continues dying.
 
Because, if someone is making the effort to go re-activate the bot......the board isn't dead is it?
