Is there a way I can make the most recent replies to a board or topic show up at the top of the list rather than at the bottom?

For just yourself go profile -> look and layout and check "Show most recent posts at the top."

For all yours go to
Administration Center »
Layout Settings »
Member Options

And modify default and modify all members options link
