Auction Help
« on: February 27, 2013, 09:46:04 am »
Hello I have set up payment for the classifieds and have built my auction page in admin but when I log in as a member there is no classifieds option on the top menu bar.  Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Also if you set the credit setting to zero for each page does this mean no credits will be allowed or do you have to set a high number for people to build credits  before they receive a credit and what do they get a free add?  Can you add this auction to a site on its owns wit out the forum? Kind Regards Peter

What is your forum url?

For access to the classifieds as a normal member make sure you setup permissions under Admin -> Permissions modify each group and give them the classifieds permissions needed.

Credit system if there are no credits set to post a listing. Then they can post a listing for free as long as you are not also not setting up a listing price.

I do have a standalone version of the auction system as well.

Thank you for the quick response, I will have a look and see if I can change the settings to the correct ones. The url is http://evomxireland.createaforum.com/index.php  I am a real novice as have only started setting sites and forums up most of the stuff is way over my head. How do I get access to use a standalone auction I would like to set a couple of sites up for trading in Ireland? Regards Peter

Thank you that worked. Next problem I am having is that I am not getting charged for the classifieds listing or auction when logging in as a regular member. I have set credits to 5000 and cost to 1.00 representing £1 do I need to use the £ symbols when setting the cost. How do I charge for the classifieds? Thanks for the link will have a look  now. All the best Peter

Made a couple changes the permissions should work fine for regular members now.

1.00 will represent  £1 if you have have that set to the default currency in the classifieds admin area.

I still don’t know what I am doing wrong in the classifieds. I have set the listing cost to 1.00 in all the subcategories, still when I log in as a member or guest there is no charge for listing an item. Could you have a look at this? Sorry for the trouble. Thanks Peter

Made an account and tested as a normal member should work ok now.

Also changed some permissions guests can view.
Regular members can bid on listings etc.

Hello couple more problems to solve. I have listed an auction and set the permissions for newbie regular or admin to bid I do not see away to bid. When buying credit is there a way for members to buy credits and use them on any category on the site. Also can people buy more than one credit say a store wanting to list could buy ten credits that could be used in any section.  It would save on time instead of going round in circles to PayPal and back.  Is there a way to redirect back from PayPal to the classifieds? Posting photos on a listing does not seem to be available at all times, Regards Peter

I had, no price/no bid checked so that was the problem with the auction. The problem with the photos is that in the drop down bar for the category,s, is that old category’s that I have deleted are still there so they do not work how do I get rid of them from the drop down bar. I take it the other options I asked about are not available.  :-\

You can use the Credits system instead of the listing price option on each category.
You will need to setup credit packages in the admin area. Such as 100 credits for $10 which users can then use those credits to by listings or upgrades.

PayPal should auto do it with a link back to forum with the return link.

Make sure each category that you are posting a listing that the max images is greater than 0 including sub categories

Categories that you have deleted are not deleting? For categories remember that you have delete each category  if you have sub categories. For example if you one parent category and two sub categories under that parent. Deleting the parent category only deletes the parent category. And sub categories will be move back to main level of the classifieds.

Ok now I know where I have gone wrong, its all about learning the system but it is worth taking the time to do so. Before I received your last post  I decided to delete all the category’s, but I believed that deleting the parent category would delete the sub category’s  this is where I was totally wrong I had done this before so when I went to add a listing two would appear  one would let me upload a photo one would not. I had a ghost category with the wrong permissions set and a category with the wright permissions set. Trouble is now I have deleted all the parent category’s if I press add auction or listing tab, all the subcategory’s are still there, they have not moved back to the main level. How do I delete them as there is no parent category to access them anymore? :o

Have worked out how to delete subcategory. Add listings in category then delete it then menu bar appears for the category ,select edit category, then select no parent category, then edit, then it appears on main page again and you can delete it. Getting there.

Glad you were able to delete them.

Just fixed the bug so that shouldn't happen again if you delete a parent category the subcategories get moved back to main classifieds category
